PLAZA DE CÉSAR CHAVEZ, SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA
Last stop, West Coast! In conjunction with the City of San Jose, The Swings closed the curtain on the 2016 US Tour with a 2 month stop in Silicon Valley. Surrounded by the Tech Museum of Innovation and the San Jose Museum of Art, The Swings were situated at Plaza de César Chávez, a park nestled in the city's downtown core.
BROOKFIELD PLACE, MANHATTAN (BATTERY PARK), NY
Hello, NYC! We kicked off the summer in the heart of Battery Park for The Swings' Manhattan debut. Recognizing the potential in activating public spaces through art, Arts Brookfield commissioned the installation to reinvigorate their newly built development along the Hudson River waterfront. The Swings were activated in front of Brookfield Place NY from June 10th to July 7th to enliven the area, post Hurricane Sandy. Thanks to the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec for bringing this tour stop to life.
DOWNTOWN DETROIT, MICHIGAN
Our second destination of the 2016 US Tour supported by the Knight Foundation was the Motor City! Located adjacent to Downtown Detroit’s esteemed Campus Martius Park, Cadillac Square was the perfect location for positive interaction and serves as an important setting for the city’s placemaking initiatives to take place.
WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA
The Swings officially kicked off their US 2016 tour supported by the Knight Foundation on Clematis Street in West Palm Beach. Located in the historical heart of the city, Clematis Street is a cultural hub home to a variety of restaurants, galleries and nightlife. This stop was made possible thanks to West Palm Beach Art in Public Places, West Palm Beach Arts & Entertainment District and West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority.
QUARTIER DES SPECTACLES, MONTRÉAL
Since 2011, the original 21 Swings installation has attracted millions of fans to the Quartier des spectacles area in Montréal, Canada, where every day each swing has swung an average of 8,500 times.
GREEN BOX ARTS FESTIVAL, COLORADO
The project premiered June 2014 at the Green Box Arts Festival, in Green Mountain Falls, Colorado. Set amidst the mountains, The Swings not only brought participants together but also brought them closer to the astonishing surroundings. We are really excited to see how the musical experience will be transformed from one site to another for upcoming tour dates. Stay tuned to discover the next outing!
