Cooperation & Music

  • Each swing triggers notes from a classical instruments: piano, guitar, harp and vibraphone. A color code indicates which instrument is played and invites the public to try different seats.

  • The interactive soundtrack is inspired by the pendulum. The higher the swing, the higher the note.

  • When the swings move together in unison, they create a musical composition through which unique melodies can emerge if participants cooperate.

  • The gentle, kinetic quality of the acoustic sounds blends seamlessly into the urban environment.

Key components

The structure's light, sensing and sound systems are connected to a console bench that hosts control components, including the main computer. The bench is connected to a power source and the Internet.

Monitoring
A web interface provides usage data (which swings have been used in the last hour, their average daily usage, the number of synchronizations) and allows to adjust opening hours and to control sound volume on an hourly basis.

Field reports can be produced. The monitoring interface also serves as a detailed overview of the installation's log for maintenance purposes.
